27 Nov Watch: A Night at the Boilerhouse
To celebrate the recent NSW Government announcement awarding the UNE Boilerhouse redevelopment project $6.128 million as part of the NSW Government Regional Growth, Environment and Tourism Fund, UNE hosted a steampunk-themed “Night at the Boilerhouse” for the over-18 public on Friday 8th November.
This was a once-only event held in the structure of the remediated Boilerhouse buildings. In amongst the concrete and steel, over 200 people wandered the site and grounds, tried to switch their brain to ride the backwards bicycle, tested their musical tones on the theramin, blasted some marshmallows from a bazooka, took a spin on a SPUN chair, tried out the handcuff challenge, ate from the Fat Butcher BBQ slow-cooked meat or paella, and had an amazing time! With magical lighting, and video projections on the magnificent concrete cylinder towering over UNE, it was a truly memorable night with many visiting for the very first time. Steampunkers stood staring up at the huge concrete hopper and appreciating what was once the heating plant for the whole of the UNE.
Thank you to all the people involved in making this incredible night happen!
