High on an internal mezzanine of the Boilerhouse, there sat a 7 tonne tank that held hot water at very high pressures. On Thursday the 28th of March 2019, that tank was removed by a 100 tonne crane....

Emerging on the hill is the steel and concrete skeleton of an architectural marvel – the bare bones upon which the future Boilerhouse Discovery Space will be built. In recent weeks the cladding and windows have been stripped from the strikingly straight lines of the steel frame. The gaps offer a wonderful view through the building as well as emphasising the geometric focus of the design, which won an Architecture Australia award in 1975. ...

The Boilerhouse project is a redevelopment of the historic, award-winning boilerhouse building on UNE’s Armidale campus into The Boilerhouse Discovery Space. I was privileged to travel recently to the United States to attend Interactivity, the annual International Children’s Museum conference, this year called “Open Source Play: Sharing the Creative Code”. And not to waste a minute in such a rich learning environment, in a country where museums, galleries, playscapes and culture intertwine to create inspirational moments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, I took the opportunity to immerse myself in these places in New York and St Louis, Missouri....

The University of New England’s “postcards from the Boilerhouse” art competition was celebrated with an awards night held at the ‘Stro at UNE main campus on Wednesday 8 August 2018. The historic Boilerhouse at the University of New England’s Armidale campus will be redeveloped into The Boilerhouse Discovery Space. To mark the initiative, UNE invited artists of all ages and stages to enter an art competition titled “postcards from the Boilerhouse” to capture various interpretations of this iconic structure.
